Linus Said It Best

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

And the angel said unto them,

Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Lincoln's 1863 Thanksgiving Proclamation

The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God. In the midst of a civil war of unequalled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict; while that theatre has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union. Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defence, have not arrested the plough, the shuttle, or the ship; the axe had enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battle-field; and the country, rejoicing in the consciousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom.

No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and voice by the whole American People. I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to his tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union.

Isabelle as The Mouse!

Isabelle is Mickey Mouse, or The Mouse as she would say, for Halloween this year. DeeDee, Mama, and Belle headed down to the Creepside Festival in Gahanna to get some tricks and treats! We all had a lot of fun and got a lot of treats! Belle enjoyed wearing her costume and cried when she had to take it off. We will be heading to a Halloween Party later this month so she will have a chance to wear it again soon!

Mommy and Belle at the Fruit Farm!!

Isabelle and Robin went to Lynd's Fruit Farm today with their play group to go apple picking. They had a really good time! They picked 3 bags full. Isabelle took a bite out of about 10 apples! Oops! It was a really hot October Day but they had a wonderful time!

Belle's FIrst Bike Ride

Belle's FIrst Bike Ride
Originally uploaded by The Lassiter's.
Belle took her first bike ride with her dee-dee yesterday. She loved it and talked and went weeeeeee a lot.

Robin found this neat bike seat that fits on the front. It is very secure and lets Belle feel the wind, instead of staring into my backside. We had lots of fun and will continue to ride bikes until winter hits.

Belle at the Park

the camera loves her
Originally uploaded by The Lassiter's.
As the summer winds down, we try to take Belle to lots of different parks around town.

This park we went to had a big sandbox and lots of stuff for little kids. We had a lot of fun, and we somehow got her to wear her hat for more than 5 minutes.

We know how winter gets, so we'll keep getting her outside whenever we can.

Pull Up a Chair

Originally uploaded by The Lassiter's.
Belle learned how to sit in her rocking chair tonight, all by her self. She first climbs in it forward and then twists around and finally shoots her legs out. It is so cute and we give her a big applause when she does it.

She can now sit in her rightful place, the princess chair.

She also loves playing in her room. There are new toys up there, or at least she's forgotten about them, and just has a good ole time.

Purple Haze Over Columbus

There is nothing more tantalizing than a free concert for budget minded parents. So, Saturday night, Robin and Eddie flocked to Mill Run amphitheater, the location of the concert, like hippies to Woodstock.

Teynor, who recommended the event, was noticeably absent, although I repeatedly scanned the crowd for a Dilbert wearing an Indians hat. He was not to be found. Mike and Jody joined us on the lawn at the festive event. It was a relaxing atmosphere with everyone camped out in lawn chairs and blankets sporadically about. No big crowds here despite the afore mentioned "free" part.

We settled in and Frank started playing at 7:00pm sharp. My favorites were his usual covers of "Pride and Joy" and "Purple Haze". I kept waiting to hear "Texas Flood" and "Cold Shot"....and I'm still waiting. Mike and Jody left around 8:30 pm, I think Mike forgot to take his Geritol or that Mork and Mindy marathon was starting on TV Land.

Frank can still rip that guitar, and "rock the blues", as he puts it. No, there was no encore, but we went home satisfied as we haven't seen Frank play in a very long time. With the summer festival season starting to crank up, I'm sure we'll be partaking in other concerts and festivals in the area. (thanks for the tip Teynor).

Isabelle Dances for the first time!

Isabelle found her groove for the first time today. Mama was singing and she just started dancing. It was the cutest thing Dee Dee and I ever saw! We also got it on video tape for all to see. She reminded us of the movie The Jerk, where Steve Martin finds his groove and says "I've got it mama, I've got it!"

Belle eats spaghetti.
Originally uploaded by The Lassiter's.
Belle had spaghetti for dinner last night. She had tried it once before and did not like it so we thought we would try again. As you can see, she had different feelings about it this time! She loved it! Boy was she a mess afterward. So was mommy's floor! We decided to strip her down and let her have a ball. We then immediately put her in the bathtub afterward! We will have spaghetti again very soon!

Lassiter's Go Creeksidin'

The Lassiter's went to the Creekside Blues and Jazz festival today. As you can tell by the picture it has been a pretty rough day. We ate Smackey's ribs (best in 10 counties) and had lemon shake-ups and ice-cream.

We arrived early to try to beat the heat and the mob. The blues and jazz music hadn't really fired up yet, so we parked in the shade by the community stage. They have all kinds of music there; 50's and 70's music etc. We had a good relaxing time and got lots of goodies. They always have these booths with bunches of giveaways.

Ahhhh...to relax

Teynor and Eddie See Red

Mutt and Jeff went to the Reds game last weekend to see the cellar dwellar Reds play the supposed better team, the Indians. It was pitcher's duel as I predicted, as the game went 12 innings 0 - 0, until finally the Reds scored and put the game out of its misery.

The Reds took 2 out of 3 from the Indians who must have been embarrassed by the whole thing. Me and Teynor had a great time, even if the guy taking our picture wanted to beat me up (i won't go into that).

It was a great time, and thus concludes my Reds rooting for the year. Go Braves!!

Daddy has been out ranked by a lunch box!

Everyday when Eddie gets home Belle runs to the door to greet his...... lunchbox! Instead of jumping into Daddy's arms, she looks around him to see if he packed his lunch that day. She is happy to see her Dee Dee but her curiosity of what Dee Dee has in his lunch box that day takes over her! If he did not pack his lunch that day, she is very disapointed!

DAM !!

The Lassiter's went to Hoover Dam today and took a long walk across the dam to the Hoover park we've never been to. They have a disc golf course there that looks interesting. People there playing golf with frisbees.

It was a gorgeous day about 75 degrees and no humidity. After walking and going to downtown Westerville, we ate at the Hoover Grill that overlooks the water. We filled our bellies and enjoyed the scenery.

Tomorrow is supposed to be another gorgeous day, in which me and Teynor head to the Queen City to watch the Dreds play the Injuns. We should have a great time, and of course, the Dreds will win somehow.

Belle and Kyrie had another trip to the Columbus Zoo today with their mommies. The weather was beautiful! This time we decided to visit some of the exhibits that we missed the last time we were there. We saw the elephants, rhinos, and the largest python in captivity! After all of these years visiting the Columbus Zoo, since I was a small child, I finally saw Jack Hanna! It was just for a brief moment, but was still pretty cool! They are remodeling the Zoo and are supposed to be finished by the Spring of 2008. We saw the plans today and it looks like it is going to be pretty neat. Let's just hope the prices do not sky rocket!

She loves copying what you say when she can. Sometimes it's jibberish but sometimes it is plain as day. Any cloth item you hand Belle she will put it right on top of her head, as you can see in the picture.

Robin and Belle are going to the zoo tomorrow with her mom friends. Robin is very relaxed tonight as she went and got her Mother's Day massage tonight. She had the works.

Belle is doing good. Walking and talking and in to everything. I took her to the park tonight while Robin was at the spa. I get in the middle of this great big grassy area, and let her go wild. She walks everywhere, and of course wants to walk on the asphalt instead of the grass. Go figure. She heard the frogs in the pond tonight and made comments about them. I told her they were her frog friends. Robin isn't so sure.

Belle at the fountains!

Isabelle and Kyrie went to Easton to play in the fountains today! It is 90 degrees so it felt wonderful! Easton is a beautiful market place here in Columbus and they have fountains for the kids to run through and play in on hot days. It is perfect for little ones that aren't quite big enough for the pools yet. Belle, Kristin, Kyrie and I went to The California Pizza Kitchen and had a wonderful lunch then headed over for some splashing fun! Kristin and I didn't mind getting wet either:) Belle and Kyrie and Kristin and I are becoming great friends! We really enjoy spending time with them. I am sure we will be headed back to Easton soon!

Isabelle and her ice cream cone!

Isabelle loves ice cream! Daddy and I take her McDonalds and get her a baby cone all of her own. She really enjoys it, as you can see!

Lester, Cody, and Eddie Go to a Reds Game

What a gorgeous night for a baseball game it was Wednesday night as we traveled down to Cincinnati to watch the Reds get hammered. None of us have been to the new stadium so it was a treat this time around just to go.

We got there early, about 5:15pm, and did a lap around the stadium to check it out. The concession areas are much wider than at the old Riverfront stadium, but the cheap hotdogs have shot up to $3.75, ouch! But that's typical ballpark prices these days. I think they are in cahoots with the movie theater people.

They have those misty fans all over the ballpark, where they have water spraying out of several fans creating a mist to keep you nice and cool. It was a welcome relief on an 85 degree day.

After watching some batting practice from the homerun fences, we settled into our seats about 7:00pm. After the game started it didn't take long for the softball game to commence. It was 2-0 before I could take a sip of my Coke. Ryan Freel made a spectacular play catching a ball at the wall that I'm sure will be on TWIB at the end of the week. As you can tell by the scoreboard, the pitching was bad and then it got worse. A couple of infield errors, as well, cost the Reds some runs. The superstars(I use that term loosely), Dunn and Griffey Jr didn't do much, I believe they didn't get a hit and just got a couple of walks.

We had a great time and I look forward to going again in June with Teynor.

Robin The Movie Maker

Dinner and a movie. We went and saw 'Shrek 3' which was pretty good. Plenty of one-liners and zingers throughout. Good for a few chuckles. They tried to freeze us in the theater, why they pump the air conditioner on a day like today is beyond me.

The big news while we were out was, that Belle let Lester rock her to sleep. You know he loved that.

We're off to Magic Mountain tomorrow with some $7 tickets that basically gives you the run of the place. Should be fun.

I feel pretty good today

hi, i'm smiley
Originally uploaded by The Lassiter's.
We're all better up here in Ohio now that we got past the stomach flu. As you can see Belle is pretty happy, and her hair has grown enough to put bows in her hair.

She loves her Wiggles and that is all she wants to watch anymore. You can't use the laptop without Belle coming screaming over to you begging for you to play the Wiggles, and of course we let her watch.

Belle is walking really good now and just goes from room to room, talking to herself and pointing a lot. I've taught her to say 'side' and point outside. She's on one syllables right now. hehehe. We're are having a ball.

The other night Belle went to sleep at 7:30pm and didn't wake up until around 6:30am the next day. We got a lot of good sleep that night, let me tell you. It was great. Then the next night she got up at 4:00am, yikes. We sleep when we can around here.

It's supposed to be sunny this weekend, so we'll try to get outside.

Isabelle Walks Among Us

Belle is now walking on her own about 3 or 4 steps at a time. I'm right down behind her making sure she doesn't get hurt. Robin thinks I'm over protective and need to let her fall and learn. It's hard not to grab her when she starts to tumble.

We went and got some edge-foam guards and have them on all the sharp corners downstairs. We're trying to baby proof the downstairs more and more as Belle learns to walk and of course, get into more stuff.

It's amazing how she just starts walking one day and from then on, that's all she wants to do. Everytime she walks a few steps and falls, we all just give her lots of applause and praise. She looks around and just smiles and claps herself a little. She is now big into the Wiggles. I think Mickey Mouse is starting to fade, although she still watches it. I think Robin is going to have us all go to one of the Wiggles concerts here in Columbus when they come. I laugh at her and say that it will be like going to see Van Halen with Sammy Hagar as Greg page the lead guy is no longer with the Wiggles. Oh well, Belle won't know.

Belle is sleeping now, and I'm not too far behind. Till next time.

Team Fair Weather Walkers walked in the MS Walk on Saturday. The Team members this year were....Robin, Aileen, Jill, Bonnie, Karen, Kristin, Darren, Isabelle, Gracie, Kyrie, Elizabeth and Eddie! The walk took place at the Columbus Zoo this year. We all had fun walking, talking and looking at all the animals! Little Isabelle missed her first Walk because of a yucky fever! Her and Daddy were shut in at home:( Maybe next year!

Hmmm French Fries

Belle loves her french fries, kind of like dear old dad. I don't know how we took this picture with Belle keeping her hat on. She used to wear anything and now it's, off with the hats.

This was a gorgeous day, that we spent outside at the zoo. We go to the zoo again this weekend for the MS Walk which should be fun. The weather is supposed to be nice and when we get tired of walking, we'll just stop and look at the animals. You know, the ones in the cages.

Look Who's Walking

Little Belle took her first steps on April, 16 2007. She stood up by herself looked around for a second, and then took two steps and then fell on her bum.

We all clapped and gave her praise. She looked at us like we had lost our minds. Now all she wants to do is walk around, we stay right down behind her so she doesn't hurt herself. She loves her walker, shown in the picture, but when she starts to fall she won't let go of it and goes crashing on the floor. We hold on to her now wherever she goes.

I know it won't be long now till she's walking on her own and then of course, running! Robin is in big trouble when that starts. She's growing up fast and we want to keep her little. :)
